I'm unable to find an update that will allow me to open Canon 5d Mark III raw files in CS4. I've downloaded a few updates, but nothing seems to be working. Help!
Convert the 5D Mark III Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS4.
A DNG workflow primer
To edit 5D Mark III Raw files, you need at least ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) 6.7 (preferably 7.1). ACR is a plugin for Photoshop which Adobe must continually update on a camera by camera basis.
CS6 was the first version to support ACR 7.1. CS5 supported ACR 6.x.
If you really want to edit Raw files, you would now be required to join the Creative Cloud since CS4 is no longer eligible to upgrade to CS6 or any version thereafter.
Your other option would be to buy a new full version of Photoshop CS6 (superseded today by the new version Photoshop CC which is only available via the Adobe Cloud).
It always surprises me that people don't use DNG. It gets around the camera update for RAW issue. It saves about 20% disk space (which on a 5D is a lot), and you get rid of the sidecar system files. It takes a few minutes extra to download a batch of files from your card using Bridge (just tick the convert to DNG box) but go make a coffee?

You can't find anything because it doesn't exist. ACR is version specific. Use the free DNG converter or sign up for Creative Cloud.

Well, not yet. In about 84 minutes…
Well if we're going to be pedantic, CS6 *is* superseded by CC but CC will be available within the next 24 hours.
