How to create a C-3PO effect

I'm trying to create a robot sound, much like C-3PO in Star Wars.  I've read the original C-3PO effect was made with a phaser, so I've tried to combine that with an FFT filter, but I can't get the sound quite right.

Has anyone tried this before?  Anyone recommend a way to make this sound more authentic?

Thank you!

Ryan

You will probably have to articulate the voice suitably when recording it before processing in Audition.

Short delays of around 10 ms or shorter with lots of feedback will get a very metallic hollow tone.
