We're swithching from FCP 7 to Premiere Pro where I work. We have a about 1,000 FCP projects that we would like to be able to access, if the need arises, using Premiere. I know it's possible to export as XML files but I've only found ways of doing one file at a time. Is it possible to convert many at once? Is there a piece of software that could automate this process? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
It's possible to script it in FCP, however be aware that Premiere only has a basic implementation of FCP XML and many things will not come across properly (titles are particularly bad).
So you're probably better off keeping FCP 7 on a spare hard drive that you can boot from when you need to render out old projects, otherwise you'll have to spend a lot of time tweaking the old projects in Premiere to get them to look exactly as they did in FCP.
Thank you for the help. Fortunately all of the videos are fairly short and simple how-to type videos. After a quick google search about scripting events in FCP 7 I didn't find much of value. If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to point me in the right direction?
Here's an overview of the FCP 7 XML format and Apple Events.
Apple used to have sample code for an app that could output XML from an FCP project into a textview, which could have been adapted for your purposes except that I can no longer find it on their site.
