Update problems with CS6

Does anybody know why my adobe application manager will not successfully install updates to Photoshop CS6 for Windows?  Not only could it not install them, I can no longer browse photo folders in Lightroom.  I've tried 3 different tech support people, and nobody could resolve the problem or even tell me what the problem is.  Does anybody know what's going on here? if you're trying to update from 13.0.1.2 to 13.1.2:

uninstall ps

let aam reinstall ps but close it down after installation

open ps

click help>updates and select 13.1.2.  do not update to 13.0.1.2, first.
