AI CC is unresponsive

Jun 20, 2013 4:54 PM

Tags: #problem #unresponsive #illustrator_cc

The program launches. That's about all it does.
Ex. I drew a box with a white fill and black border.
I tried to swap the fill and border and nothing happened.
I zoomed out and it showed the change.
Basically anytime I do something I have to adjust the zoom to get it to show the edit I wanted.

Then it won't let me close the document or quit the program.

Not sure what to do.

What OS and it sounds as if your machine is at the limit of supporting AICC.

Try deleting the preferences of illustrator. For that go to ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 17 settings/  & ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 17/ folders

I am having a similar problem. Also runnung System 10.6.8. AICC just doesn't respond. Sometimes I have to force quit because it won't even respond to "Command Q" or the "Quit" menu.

Adobe says that 10.6.8 is the minimum for AICC but I guess they need to look into that further.

Updating the system may seem to be the answer but we are also running other print industry specific software that is not ready for System 10.7 or 10.8 - software that is MUCH more expensive to upgrade.

BTW- deleting the Preferences did nothing.

I made a post with this exact same issue already but I'm on mac 10.7.5

what hardware do you have? I think it may be a graphics card issue.

After a little further research, I found that some people were having similar troubles where fonts were an issue. After installing Verdana and Tahoma, the problem seems to have gone away.

Fonts: the digital graphics "F" word!

holy smokes, that did it RW! verdana and tahoma were completely missing from my system. I don't understand how that happened and you'd think they'd be included with the adobe suites.

edit: I didn't even need to restart illustrator, I've had it opened since yesterday and the issues stopped immediately after turning the fonts on.

Check the user permissions on two folders (sub-folders):

    1. <user>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 17

    2. <user>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings

I'm also suffering from the unresponsive keystroke issue.

Raghuveer, can you specify what exactly we should be checking please?

Can you please describe a little more that what you are observing on your system? (unresponsive keystroke ??)

Also check wether the Verdana font is enabled or not.

Hi Raghuveer, thanks for getting back to me. I do have Verdana enabled. There appear to be no duplicates either. My experience so far is that of illustrator intermittently (and with no discernible pattern) not registering keystrokes, sometimes after numerous presses with no response. Normally I attempt another action or click on an icon on the tools palette. This is true of both my USB connected keyboard and my macbook keyboard. If you need any further info just let me know.

    Thanks
