MX: How to insert a doc into a template

Jun 21, 2013 8:34 AM

I am planning three different events that shares the same list of sponsors.  Each event has it's own template with it's own design and color scheme.

I'd like to create a sponsors document (a simple table with logos and links) that I can insert into each of the events' templates but can't figure how.

I created a sponsors table into a template .dwt file but quickly figured out that you can't insert a template into another template.  Or... can you?

Any help would be great appreciated.

Nesting templates is a very bad idea.

Why can't you just insert the table into your .dwt files?

If you are using the term "template" loosly and not actually using 3 separate .dwt files...

If you have 3 differently designed pages that you want to add the same complex element to and want to then update that element later and have it change on all three pages you could use a Library Item.

Open your Assets window in Window > Assets

Click the Library Item button (open book)

Click the + button and give your new item a name

Add all the code of the item to the document and save.

In your originally designed page, drag the library item from the Assets window to the point in your document where you want it to go.

From there on out, you can update the library item by double clicking it in the assets window and any page on your site that uses it will be updated.
