My Elements 7.0 after a long worklife, suddenly fails to open jpeg, gif and png images from my folders. If I attempt to re-install the software I get a prompt to "remove Elements 7.0." Is this necessary to reinstall, rather than simply write over the existing malfunctioning version? I'm using Windows 7. Thanks for your help.
You can't do a repair install in windows. However, there are other things to try first. Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift. Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do. (This only works if you start the editor directly, via the button in the organizer, the .exe file, or the Edit button in the welcome screen. If you have set the welcome screen to automatically open the editor, double-clicking the PSE shortcut won't work.)
Tried your suggestion several times, getting the window to delete the
settings file, clicking yes, then the editor opens. No files will open in
the editor, as before. May I go to the control panel, uninstall Adobe
Elements, then install as if a new installation?
