Started with a block of colored text, converted it to outlines. Adding a drop shadow effect darkens the text color by the percentage of black I select in the drop shadow dialog. Does the same whether the selected blending mode is "normal" or "multiply". What's going on I wonder? Thanks for any tips.
Let's try these for images. Here's the colored artwork with notes about blending effects.
There's no yellow in the color build, so no yellow plate. Following is the black plate. You can see where the drop-shadowed versions are overprinting black and the other versions have no black in the image.
This might be just onscreen darkening of colours - it might not be happening at all - but the computer needs to "shift" to dispaly transparencies, like drop shadows and other effects - and this might be what you're seeing.
You can check the Percentages of the inks with the View>Output>Separations and see what percentages are showing up. I doubt they are changing though.
Hi Eugene. Sorry to say it's real. Not only do the separations above demonstrate it but the piece was on press yesterday afternoon and those text blocks were decidedly not printing correctly as far as color goes. The interesting/perplexing thing here is that all of the items on this test page you've been looking show the same color assignment in the swatches panel (Pantone DS222-4 C).
