I cannot hear my selections…?

I used to be able to use the cursor or lasso tool to select parts of the spectral frequency display and playback only those selections. I can no longer hear only the selections during playback. Instead, I hear the full waveform during the duration of my selections. What setting has changed?

I am running Adobe Audition CS6 on a 27" iMac (Mid 2011) loaded with the most current update of OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), 3.4 GHz Intel Quad-Core i7 (hyperclocked) with 4 x 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB Graphics, 2560 x 1440.

Preferences>Spectral Displays, and put a check in the box next to 'Play only selected frequencies when a spectral frequency selection is made'.

Also there is also a tick box in the drop down menu if you right click on the Play button.
