Illustrator CC is slow and won't quit

Jul 11, 2013 7:16 AM

I have two different macs, both intel with 4 gigs of ram. I open illustrator CC with a new clean document then just draw a square. When I try move the square to another spot the blue outline moves but the the square is still in the old spot. I have to click several times for the square to show up in the new spot even then it takes a few seconds for the square to move.

Also I can't close the window I am working on. When I click the red button in the upper left corner of the canvas the window won't close.

I can't quit illustrator CC either. I have to force quit it to close it.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I was just having the same exact problem. Try uninstalling and reinstalling. It worked for me.

    Hi waltwooden,

What specific model of Mac do you have where Illustrator is slow and won't quit?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jacob,

Good info and it lead me to the answer!

I can confirm that by installing the Tahoma and Verdana fonts, the problem goes away (at least for me it did).

    Thanks so much!

Hey, we have 4 Mac Pros

    Processor  2 x 2.4 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon

    Memory  16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC

    OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)

2 machines that had immediate Illustrator issues all other CC software worked fine (issues are exactly as detailed in above postings)

2 machines that all software worked

The 2 machines had CC software reinstalled - didn't fix the issues. After new install on one machine Indesign had this error: Startup Alert - Adobe InDesign does not recognize Assigment UI.InDesignPlugin as a valid plug-in. Please reinstall the Assigment UI.InDesignPlugin Plug-in and restart InDesign. This same type error was for several other plug-ins in InDesign.

The 2 other macs that previously worked fine, also started having the same issues with illustrator and had to do the uninstalls and reinstall. This didn't solve the problem.

This may not work for anyone else, but what worked for us, we restored the OS on all the macs and now all the CC softwares are working. I didn't at all think this would help but it did for us.

    Hopefully this will help someone.

    Patricia
