Bad PDF CC preview.

Jul 17, 2013 3:01 AM

Clients are complaining because my PDFs are showing strange defects.

Does not sound a browser problem as the faults are visible directly in Acrobat app.

Opened in Photoshop don't show the pixelation but  the doubt remains.

Imac 10.7.5, 8GB Memory.

How to fix it?

    Photoshop looks fine

InDesign looks that way because it displays a proxy image not the image itself - see View>Display Performance and choose High Quality for a better quality proxy image - but it shouldn't be relied on for actual quality of image.

Acrobat may look that way because the preferences are automatically set to display images at 96 ppi - if you choose 72 ppi for images then it will not look sharp on screen - as a round figure a lot of monitors are 96 ppi although the resolution of monitors differs per computer and quality and size of monitor, like the retina displays on macs.

You should try exporting the pdf but only downsample to PDFs to 150 ppi.

But any zooming in or out of the images will inheritently cause screen artifacts to appear.

Maybe you should try 200 or 300 ppi?

Hi, what is the preflight inventory on the InDesign file; on the TIFF image itself?

    Cheers,

We can't help without knowing the export settings you've used for the PDF.
