When I try to optimize my catalog in PSE9 I get a message that an error prevented the catalog from optimizing
Any hints on what I should do about this?
Assuming you have repaired first, it would be good to know at which stage of the optimization you get the error warning.
Optimizing the catalog means a two steps 'cleaning' of the sqlite databases :
- the first one is the catalog itself : catalog.pse9db. That's very quick.
- the second one it the thumbnail cache : thumbs.5.cache, also a sqlite database, which holds all the thumbnails. You should see the text of the message change to show that second phase. That phase is much longer if you have many pictures.
If the thumbnail cache is the culprit, you can delete the 'thumbs.5.cache' file and start the organizer again. That will rebuild it from scratch.
Note : to find the folder which contains your catalog, use the menu Help / System Info.
Michael B-- your advice was spot on
I had already done the repair and the optimize function would run for about 5 seconds before returning the error message.
I proceeded to delete the thumbs.5.cache file and restarted. It took about 2 hours to rebuild the 14K image file but everything seems to be working great now
