Synchronize folder gives an impossible number

When I select the Synchorinize option, it says there are over 295,000 images, which is impossible.  15 to 20,000 at most.  So I never start it, cause I'm afraid of what it's trying to catalog.  Why would it be giving me such a number?

    Hard to say.

One possibility is that the folder you selected contains a subfolder which includes all of the Lightroom preview files (which are JPGs). If so, that would be a rather poorly designed folder structure.

But that's just one possibility. I doubt we could know for sure across the internet.

Have you examined this folder and subfolders to see how many files are in there that are photographs? Your operating system can count all the JPGs, you know, so you can know exactly how many of those are present.

Have you tried simply importing the desired photos from the desired folder?
