How can I restrict the opening of a pdf to certain people?

Nov 3, 2013 12:06 PM

I'm creating an online course and I want to restrict the pdf so that only those people who have subscribed to it may open it. What's the most appropriate way of doing this? Many thanks

Put it inside a password protected folder that only authorized users have access to.

You can usually create a protected folder  from your server's Admin or C-Panel.  If not, contact your hosting provider and ask them how to do it.

Frankly, what I would do is place the web page itself with the link to the PDF file in a protected folder.

Link to that page should say something like "customer login" or "authorized user login"

A protected folder will have one username and password (only) for all users, unless you set up a database and put togehter a login via php.

In addition to what Nancy and Mark have suggested, you can also password protect the individual pdfs at the time of creation.
