Hi, whenever I try to make a PAL DVD in Encore it stretches the video vertically slightly, this doesn't occur when I make a PAL Bluray, any help would be greatly appreciated as I can't seem to get around it.
I've tried it at 1920 x 1080 - H264
I've tried it at 720 x 564 (PAL DVD), interestingly when I render the footage out in Premiere using the PAL DV preset it also comes out stretched vertically slightly.
When I load HD clips into Windows DVD Maker it creates the PAL DVD without any stretching, is there something I'm missing?
Encore transcoedes the files to their original square pixel setting.
Sorry I meant 720 x 576, its stretched vertically ever so slightly, but enough to notice they have long faces.
The source footage is 1920 x 1080 MP4
The Premiere sequence setting is 1080 DSLR 25fps
The dynamic link is through after effects, I am importing the animated menu, which is rendered at DVD PAL.
Encores transcode settings are set to Automatic.
I've tried making a DVD in Encore on a another computer and its done the same thing.
The dynamic link is through after effects,
How does the material in Premiere get into Encore? Dynamic link, or are you exporting from PR and importing that file to Encore?
If there is not some other issue, you will probably need to change from the automatic setting in Encore, or export from Premiere. In either of those, you can see where the distortion is being introduced.
I'm using a pro motion menu kit for the dvd menu, it exports the video files out of after effects, I then drag the dynamic link into the same folder as the video files, and load the menu assets with that, selecting the right format (PAL), I then import my Video files and Encore transcodes them.
Thanks for the menu info.
I then import my Video files and Encore transcodes them.
"Video files" sounds like you are not dynamic linking from PR, but must, therefore, be exporting from PR. I don't see above where you showed us what your export settings are from PR. Also, if you are exporting from PR, you should export a version that does not require Encore to transcode them.
I assume that you are exporting a Bluray version, and bringing that in to Encore. I assume that Encore shows those files as "do not transcode" in the bluray status transcode column. Is that true so far?
I am not dynamic linking from PR, I am following the tutorial given with the menu kit which only dynamic links from after effects, my export settings from PR are 1920 x 1080 mp4 25 fps, I tried exporting as DV PAL from PR, and it comes out stretched.
The Bluray version is fine, but it says Untranscoded so I'm assuming it transcodes.
Please post screenshots of your settings, for example, the settings you used when exporting that last one from PR. Include the oiutput tab (to the left of the main settings), so we can see the "Scale to Fill" etc.
