Hi, I'm new to Photoshop and elements. I downloaded a trial version of PSE 12 to my mac, and imported my photo folders. It looks like PSE has renemed all my folder with strings of letters and characters. How can I retrieve my original folder names, or figure out how to identify the folders PSE has created? Thanks so much for your help.
PSE does not rename the folders on import. You can verify it by checking the folder names under folder sections on left had side pane. The left hand side pane can be invoked through Show/Hide button in bottom left corner.
I am talking about the file names in the side panel on the left. I am aware that PSE doesn't change the folder names in their original location. My challenge is within PSE. Picasa has a similar panel on the left that shows my folder names...in PSE the names that appear are a jumble of letters and symbols, whereas in Picasa, they are the same folder names as on my hard drive. I hope this clarifies my problem. Thanks to anyone for assistance. I could really use your help!!
OK,now I got the problem. So just to make sure that these folder names in PSE are same as in Finder, you can select a folder and choose "Reveal in Finder". It would ascertain that folder opened in Finder has same name as in PSE.
Ok, so I'm trying to deduce what has happened...I now see that (relief) my orginal folder names are mixed in with all the (many) newly created folders with the jumbled names, and the new folders represent duplicate sets. This seems to be because of iphoto, which I think I need to delete altogether--never liked it. It was extremely confusing bc when I did the 'reveal in finder' function, the location of the folder is a long string of info: /Volumes/Main external hard drive oct 2013/Main photo folder/NC/NC 5/iPhoto Library.photolibrary/Thumbnails/2013/07/30/20130730-110355.
I am trying to keep all photos on an external HD, aka 'Main external Hard Drive', but the iphoto library snuck into one of my folders when I was transferring them from the main HD to the external HD. This created many duplicates. I just deleted it.
Do you think I need to uninstall and reinstall PSE 12 to get rid of the many duplicate file folders? Would that be the simplest fix?
I really appreciate your help. Thanks.
You need not uninstall and install PSE12 again. You can just create a new catalog and import your images in this catalog. You can create new catalog by going to File->Manage Catalogs. Catalog manager dialog box will open up, here you can create a new catalog and then import images in newly created catalog.
