Can VideoPlayer source be a PHP url?

I have audio clips saved in a database, and use a PHP script to retrieve them. If I call something like this in a browser, the PHP script sends an MP3 data stream and the browser plays it correctly.

https://sample.com/retrieve.php?clip=audio23

What I want to do now is to play these clips using Flex VideoPlayer. I tried the following, but nothing played.

<s:VideoPlayer source="https://sample.com/retrieve.php?clip=audio23" />

Does VideoPlayer check the file extension and disallow non-media files? I could write the audio data to a .mp3 file first on the server, but I'd rather not do that.

    I don't know if the video player can play MP3 files or not (I suspect NOT), but why would you assume it could and why would you want to play sound through a video player?

    I have a feeling it might be a MIME type issue - with the PHP not generating the correct headers, but I don't have any time to investigate this for you.
