Adobe Acrobat Trial Version preventing other Adobe products from running

A few months ago I downloaded and installed the latest trial version of Adobe Acrobat. Then after the trial period ended, I decided not to purchase the product, and I uninstalled it from my PC. Instead, I downloaded the free Reader. But now Reader won't run. It opens for a few seconds, then closes. I suspect that has something to do with the free trial version of Acrobat, that is preventing other Adobe products from launching. Can you help? I've tried deleting Acrobat from the registry, and uninstalling and reinstalling the Reader. But the program only opens for a few seconds, then shuts down. It's very frustrating. Almost as if Adobe won't run unless I upgrade and purchase Acrobat. Do you think this is what's happening?
