Flash CS6 and Flash Pro CC questions

Dec 20, 2013 5:56 AM

I have the Adobe Creative Suite CS6, I just seen that Flash has a new version "Flash Pro CC" I need to know the following.

WIll Flash Pro be available on its own? Or is there a CS7 Creative Suite coming?

Main differences in Flash Pro CC  and Adobe Edge Animate?

I do not see any of this info available as my business seems to be pointing to more app creation and HTML5 animation in the future. Adobe Edge is a good tool but there is no tool that can stand beside Flash when it comes to animating and I would hope that in some way shape or form, masks and some other features which were avaialble ONLY in Flash are now somehow integrated in Flash Pro?

Any info appreciated.

thx

RD

the latest version of flash pro is flash pro cc and it is available via creative cloud subscription, only.

i'm not sure what the next version of flash pro will be called, or if it will even change from flash pro cc.

edge is stictly an html animation tool.  flash pro is much more, but even in the realm of html publishing, i'm not sure there's anything that edge can do that flash pro cannot.  (there might be, i just don't know.)

So, Flash Pro CC is ONLY available in Creative Cloud for a subscription, correct?

    yes.

flash can export html5 animation that uses masks.  it's actually very good at exporting timeline animation including button responses to mouse events.

but actionscript does not get converted to javascript so all coding must be redone in javascript

The main difference between the two AFAIK is -

Using Flash Pro, apart from the traditional swf based animations, HTML5 Canvas based animation is also possible now that uses Canvas specific APIs for vector drawing and animation.

Edge Animate on the other hand allows animation of various DOM elements within an HTML page using CSS and jQuerry.

    Hi,

Canvas doc-type in Flash does support Masking and most of the other features of Flash Pro.

There are however some unsupported functionalities for Canvas publishing which get disabled in the Flash Pro authoring environment, while working on a Canvas Doctype. This should clarify any confusions about the supported/unsupported features for HTML5 Canvas publishing.

    More details are available here:
