I'm thinking of setting up a "WAMP" testing server on my computer, but I'm in a networked office environment and don't want to mess anyone else up, or also, I don't want to disrupt my Internet connection by changing port assignments or whatever might be involved. So I'm proceeding cautiously. Am I being too careful?
A local testing server shouldn't pose any problems for your network or internet connection since it resides on your local hard drive.
If you prefer, you could install XAMPP lite on a USB drive. The advantage is that's it's portable and lightweight.
