Can't import video into premiere pro

Jan 24, 2014 5:57 PM

Hey guys, I downloaded the free trial and i'm trying to import video from my camcorder into adobe but it says that there is a problem decompressing the audio/video file. Can you guys guess what I could have done wrong? Tried to find out the properties of the videos under "files" and then "find properties" but it says they are not available, yet if i import a picture it can tell me all the properties of the picture. Any help would be appreciated.

What camera? ie what video file "type"?

Did you ingest the file into your computer?

    You need to supply information.

Codec & Format information, read both links in reply #1 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1270588

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/592070?tstart=30 for screen shot instructions

    For PC http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en or http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

    For Mac http://mediainspector.massanti.com/

Try deleting the Cache files.  You can find their locations on the hard drive under Edit>Preferences>Media...

That's not quite it.  From that panel, write down the locations of the Cache and the Database on the hard drive.  Then close down PP and delete those folders with Windows Explorer or Finder.  Then reopen the project and let the files rebuild.

The PPro/Encore tutorial list in message #3 http://forums.adobe.com/message/2276578 may also help, with more help in message #5

What happens when you import the clips directly, instead of a PP project?

Weird.  The only thing I got is that PP was designed aroung DV for SD media.  MPEG for SD is kind of an oddball format.  Still, I would expect it to work just fine in both PP and AE.

You might try continuing this by posting a new thread in the After Effects forum, where the AE exports hang out.
