I purchased Dreamweaver4 in 2001 but after the last Windows/computer upgrade I can't make a new page. I realise I probably need a Dreamweaver upgrade but don't know which one or whether existing website files will transfer over successfully.
The current version of DW is DWCC (13) and it's about as different from DW4 as it's possible to be. I don't want to scare you away, but if you are not even modestly skilled with HTML and CSS, you will be facing a steep climb. Since HTML is HTML, all files created in DW4 will go right into DWCC, but it's nearly guaranteed that the code will need lots of work. Perhaps something like CoffeeCup might be a better tool if you don't have the requisite skills. So, how experienced are you with HTML and CSS?
after the last Windows/computer upgrade I can't make a new page.
Can you elaborate with more detail?
Which version of Windows are you running? Which was the last upgrade you applied?
What exactly happens when you try to make a new page in DW?
Thank you for your reply. I'm not very skilled in html & don't know what
CSS is nor CoffeeCup. My website has huge databases & many photos so
changing over to anything will be a big headache.
I think I'm running Windows 7 Professional 2009 . In Dreamweaver 4 when
I wanted a new page, I just did File- New file and a green icon would
come up under my yellow folder. Now I can still get a green folder but
now I get a message saying "I can't find a valid editor for this file
extension". Instead of a green icon I get a white icon with lines
Also when I open Dreamweaver now ,I get a warning message from User
Control but I can still get in.
Thanks for your help,
