I am hoping you can help as this is driving me insane... A friend uploaded a tutorial on hair painting.. and also gave us the link to the brushes, however when I load them into Photoshop only 4 of the brushes show. She advised me to close photoshop and open it again but nothing, I even uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled it and still no avail.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks in advance
Open Windows Explorer > Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > Show hidden files, folders or drives.
Then navigate to
C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (or whatever version)\Presets\Brushes
Copy your .abr files to that folder. They will show up in both 32 and 64bit versions of Photoshop.
This is a handy link to bookmark:
What are you starting with? You mention a link. Post the URL here so we can see what is going on. Is it a Zip file? Can you see aerarate .abr files? Are you perhaps being denied access to the presets folder? Do you have Admin rights? Do the .abr files show in the folder after pasting them there? Can you see .abr files in that folder that do not appear in Photoshop?
What version of Photoshop? Pierre is absolutely right, and we should have asked that from the outset.
My apologies to both of you I should have also mentioned it myself. The version of Photoshop I am running is CS6. It does not list the amount but two of my friends downloaded the set and their brushes are so much different to the ones I had all except 4 of them and we downloaded the same file.
I have all the admin rights as this is my PC and yes the abr files show in the folder also. And no it's a bunch of brushes loaded into one abr file.
Thanks so much for your quick replies
Extremely strange as they are the ones I have, even though they do not look exactly the same but I suppose I play with the brush presets.... Well I guess I will ask, I have seen all the brushes on DA so finding this particular one will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Thank you both so much for your time and patience.
I don't think your changes will stick unless you save the set, so reset to the Standard brush set, and then re-append the Skin and Hair brushes, and they will be back to their default settings.
There are thousands of brush sets out there, all searchable via Google. Deviant Art and Adobe Exchange are the best sources I know of. Or you could include 'Jared Castro' in your search parameters, or maybe easier to just go ask on Jared's facebook page
What sort of thing are you looking for? What sort of work do you do?
Yep, tried all of the above and even messaged the man himself, although I am not entirely sure he even goes on that Facebook anymore :-S
I've searched all of DA for the rake hair brushes that the girl uses in her tutorial and nothing.
I do portraits and I am looking into painting hair.
