How do I remove the previous version of the FlashPlayer plugin in Firefox 28.0?

How do I remove the previous version of the FlashPlayer plugin (12.0.0.77) in Firefox 28.0?  I updated to the latest version, but now I have the old version and the new version active in the Firefox add-ons page.  I tried to disable the old version.  When I tried, both versions were disabled.  Any suggestions?  I am using a Windows 8.1 Pro 64 pc with IE11 as the default browser.  I checked IE11 and only one version of FlashPlayer shows.  The OS updater updates FlashPlayer for IE11.
