Can't watch YouTube videos or embedded videos on other websites after latest Flash 13 update. Just get a back screen.

Using IE 10, Windows 7 home 64-bit; shockwave flash object enabled, ActiveX filtering off.

Never had problems viewing videos before updating Flash 13.0.0.182 on April 16. Please help! Thanks.

Check, and update (repair) if necessary, your video drivers:

Thanks, Mike, but my Intel driver is up-to-date, so don't think that's the problem.

Yesterday morning I was able to view a few YouTube videos emailed to me by a friend. But I still got just a black screen when I tried to watch videos from YouTube links emailed and saved before last week. I compared the older and newer links and discovered I can only view YouTube URLs that start with https: but not those that start with http: . Not sure why -- Any ideas? Not sure if it's a Flash problem or a YouTube issue. I don't how to fix the problem other than to manually add an s to the http: link every time I visit YouTube.

BTW, I have no problems on Vimeo or other video sites.

Thanks again for your input.

I'm having the exact same problem.  Videos worked find before I upgraded Adobe Flash Player yesterday.  Now I just get a grey screen.  My PC video drivers are up to date.  I have Windows 8 and IE 11.  No problem on my ISUS notepad (yet).

lucystt,

Even up to date drivers can become corrupted. Windows will indicate that they're up to date, but it CAN'T and WON'T indicate if the drivers have become corrupted.

That's why I linked to the page with the update instructions... to update/repair the drivers.

tadnyc,

Youtube underent a major overhaul in the past 12 months, and they upgraded to HTML5 video on everything they host. Since that happened, I can't even get onto the site as an unsecured URL (http). ANYTIME I visit YouTube, no matter what OS or browser (5 versions of Windows - 4 of OS X), it defaults to a secured URL (https). That may be a factor in this, especially with emailed embedded videos.

Thanks, Mike.  But Adobe just tells me that the drivers are up to date and won't let me download again.  I tried to figure out how to do a manual download, but it's a little beyond my skills, so I'll have to get my IT guy to come do it for me.

I can watch the YouTube videos by adding the "s" to the "http" but when MSN.com goes to a FOX news video, that isn't an option.  Darn!

Oh, well -- I watch to many darn videos anyway!!

After an "important" Windows 7 update this morning, I'm once again able to view http: YouTube videos, both on YouTube itself and embedded in other websites (like NPR music) and blogs. Not sure if that's coincindental or if Windows changed something that affected Flash. [Their previous updates were on April 8, shortly before the Flash 13 update.] In any case, I hope this lasts! I had been adding an s to the unsecured URLs on YouTube to go to the HTML5 version, but couldn't do that for videos embedded on other sites. (My IE 10 browser did NOT default automatically to the https: sites.)

Thanks again for your consideration and input.

Not sure why it wasn't working for me either.  I use Firefox.  It worked fine on IE though.  So what I did was uninstalled Flash and then installed the previous version.  Worked perfect again.

Version 11.7 is here:

Great minds run in the same circles! That's exactly the fix I had in mind and have already uninstalled 13. 12 was still on my computer and I'm not sure if it got uninstalled as well - haven't had time to check but I'm hoping it's still there.

Thanks for the input.

LATEST

The problem with using that older version of Flash player is that after May 13, Flash player 13 will replace version 11.7 as the extended support version. (The announcement is on the link you provided.)

Hope you'll have luck getting #13 to work, as I seem to have done this morning!
