homesite 5.5 resource window will not dock

May 21, 2007 6:00 AM

Here is a screenshot:
http://www.borlak.org/images/homesitebr.JPG

You'll notice the resource window (F9) is floating. It wont re-dock. A coworker has the option under View->Resource Windows->Dock all windows (or something to that effect). As you'll see in the screenshot, that doesn't exist for me. This is homesite 5.5 and I can't find any updates on it, or a fix for this.

If I drag the window to the sides, it doesn't try to re-dock as you would expect. I've right clicked everywhere on the resource window looking for some kind of menu option - nothing. I've also tried double clicking the titlebar of the resource window (typical way of docking a window), again to no effect.

I found the keyboard shortcut "Dock All Resource Windows" and tried several different keybinds, and it does not redock the resource window for me.

I pretty much gave up on homesite due to this and tried a couple different editors (including dreamweaver), but after a day of use I would like to go back to homesite, but this is still bugging the heck out of me. The only thing I haven't tried is re-installing, but that is a pain in my work environment since I need admin access and it can take a while to get that done; plus that option seems a little extreme.

Any help would be greatly appreciated;
Michael

    I remember I have had this problem too a while ago. As far as I know you have to fiddle with the registry - but maybe someone has a better solution. I can't see a button to attach a file here, so I show my registry-settings directly here - I hope this helps

    Thank you, thank you. This little exercise (before I found your excellent post) wasted the better part of half a day. I'll definitely be keeping your site as a bookmark for future reference. Thanks again!

    I'm having a similar problem with my Snippets window in Homesite 5. It used to dock in the resource window, but the snippets tab has now disappeared from the resource window and I cannot find a way to redock my snippets. The solution mentioned here will not work for me because there is no files list section in the snippets window, nor can I adjust the window to make a files list section appear.

    Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. This has been driving me crazy. :) Thanks!

    btw, I just had this problem myself.  Homesite crashed once then when I restarted everything was undocked.

    Even though I knew from my own notes how to redock most of them, the snippets tab was a bugger.

    Oddly enough, *sometiems* the snippets tab will give you that move-to menu option to let you re-dock, but not always.  Seems related to the order you redock tabs.  Perhaps you just need to not have it be last.

    Anyway, I had to add in some of those registry values (while HomeSite was closed) to redock it.

    I'll add those details to my faq as soon as I get chance.

    One note to add to that, it seems that the DockHost value for the tabs is sometimes slightly different.

    Mine is:

    "DockHost"="AllaireTabDockForm1"

    If you look at the keys under

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\HomeSite5\Docking\

    you'll see that one of them is something like

    AllaireTabDockForm0 or AllaireTabDockForm1

    The DockHost values for the tabs should match that, so when you recreate the

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\HomeSite5\Docking\frmDockSnippe ts]

    DockHost string make sure it matches.

    On a related matter, I noticed that there is a registry value :

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\HomeSite5\ResourceTab]
    "DockTabLock"="0"

    I vaguely recall this being something to lock all the tabs so you can't undock them.

    I can't find that in the HomeSite user interface at all.  I'll test the registry value,

    but does anyone know how you would change it in the HS UI?

    thanks, later,

    jeff
