I also have FlashUtil9d. I've tried everything you've suggested a couple of times and nothing seems to work. I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling everything and I've tried updating my javascript to see if that was the problem, but I still can't get my flash to work. Everytime I restart after following your instructions, the settings revert to their originals with the 'Everyone' setting losing its Full Access. How can I stop this?

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate last weekend, and like many I found that the flash player did not work on many sites including YouTube etc.

Well, the good news is I think I have the fix that many of you have been looking for:

I navigated my way to:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Then right clicked over both 'Flash9b.ocx' and 'FlashUtil9b.exe', and chose properties.

In properties choose the 'security' tab > Click on the 'everyone' account, and the button called 'edit' and then tick the box called 'allow full control' and also choose your own Windows local account name.

Once you have done this for both files run the FlashUtil9b.exe and it should install and update and tell you to restart. Do so and you should find that YouTube and other sites that use flash now work.

Let me know how you get on. theopenworldtechnician.com

OMG I can't beleive it worked!! I've been trying to figure out what to do and this helped! It was as if the flash player wasn't installing. My version is a little newer, 'FlashUtil9d.exe' instead of 'FlashUtil9b.exe', but it still worked!! Yoohoo, now I can read my Black Friday shopping ads! Thank you.

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
Hi, I have read all the suggestions regarding Flash Player and Vista and still cannot get anything to happen. When I go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed I do not see "FlashUtil9b.exe or even flash 9b.ocx. When I try to search for them, nothing comes up. I am like everyone else, everything was fine until yesterday after an update from Windows installed, then the flashplayer was gone. I uninstalled the update but that still didn't help. Then I came to this site and tried everything here without any luck. Help!!

ok, an update on the problem for me, i managed to download flashplayer(supposedly), i unchecked google toolbar and it went through the download, even showing the F symbol to say it had downloaded, i restarted IE and went to youtube and it still said download flashplayer, so, i (downloaded again) flashplayer and restarted computer, and went to youtube, same problem, still says download flashplayer, so i looked in the folder and all that is in there is the FlashUtil9d.exe file, and i checked that the way someone mentioned here, and its all checked . so..now i have run out of options, anyone have a clue as to what to try next?? thank you

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
Okay, i need help, I have tried everything that is stated in here, from the past YEAR, and none of the above guidelines work. MY problem is the installation process of Adobe. It WILL NOT install on my new computer. And when is does, install, it STILL doesn't play movies from almost any sites. And when it finally plays, it wont go to wide screen. When i try to click, and make a particular movie wide screen, everything on the screen gos away, and i can still hear the sound to the movie, and from corner to corner, diagonally, one side turns white, and one side turns black, and i have to crtl+alt+delete to make it go away!!! This computer was made for me, and was supposed to run everything from music, to movies, and it doses none of the above, because Adobe... I don't understand it, also, I'm new to Vista.. But i am everything but new to Mozilla, and on my old computer it ran beautifully.

PLEASE HELP ME

That also sounds like my problem at Thread However, you can just press ESC key to go it away. Nonetheless it sounds like common problem for Vista with new update

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
Astonishing! Running IE7 on Vista Home Premium as Administrator makes Flash9 work. I had done all the other fixes and rebooted, with increasing frustration. Well done this is the missing trick.
The next question is why does it work?
Open a IE7 window without Administrator and it does not work, open with and it does, weird. I have Administrator privileges on my account.
Why could I not find this advice on the Adobe help pages?
Thanks.

ok, just tried everything again! I deleted Flashplayer, the active x, even the file from the system 32, Firefox, again1 Restarted my computer, a Dell laptop, which came with the Windows Vista home premium, didn't mention that before, restarted my computer, and installed Flash again, made the changes as listed above to the files required, and .....nope! Didn't work, So then I installed Firefox again, went to Yahoo and tried the videos. Said it had to download Flash player again and so I said yes...still the same! I have the videos on both IE and Firefox, but still no sound!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Man I gotta tell you switching to Vista was a big mistake. I almost bought a Mac, but chickened out. Now I have nothing but problems. I am very tempted to go back to XP.

I've checking forums like this one and I ran across a survey that showed 75% of the Vista user are considering going back to XP. I wish I would have saved the thread so I could add it here.

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
So I sent you an email on your personal website, but I thought I would just post something in here just in case. So I got a new Dell laptop about 2-3 weeks ago, and I was able to download Adobe Flash Player 9 no problem and it was working fine. However, this past weekend I realized it was no longer on my computer and certain sites were telling me I needed to download it. I don't know why it was erased off my computer but everytime I try and go back to the pain Adobe page to download, the pop up box that asks permission to do so does not pop up. I have followed all your instructions carefully and they seemed to be working until I restarted my computer. Once it loaded up again, all the same sites still told me I needed to download Flash Player and I don't know what to do! You've been such a great help to everyone in this forum, I wonder if you have any ideas as to how I can fix this? It would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!!

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
Ok, I'm still stumped.
I am running Windows XP Home on an HP PC. I have Version 9,0,115,0 of Flash installed.
I have FlashUtil9e.exe
I am running as Administrator as I am the only user of this PC.
If I go to YouTube or any other site with videos or music they all work, with One exception
http://www.afl.com.au I do not get any Flash content showing. The links there are what brought me to this site.
I also have Firefox installed and the same thing happens, ie no Flash content at that site.
And as the site relies heavily on Flash I am missing my Aussie Rules fix.
Hmmm that's odd...
I saw the above comments about people wanting to move back to XP from Vista
I just tried that site on my old PC running Windows Me.
Everything works.
Does that mean I'm gonna have to move back to Windows Me?

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
For XP, this is what worked for me:

After installing Adobe FlashPlayer 9, it worked as an admin, but appeared not to be installed as a non-admin user, so here are the steps I took:

Gave modify and down rights to the user group (not everyone) for C:\Windows\System32\Macromed folder.

Made the user an admin JUST LONG ENOUGH to log in as the user and do the next few steps.

I went to Internet Explorer, Tools, Manage Add-Ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons.

I clicked on the Flash Player Add-on and clicked Enable.

Then I clicked on Update Active X and installed the update.

Took the user out of Admin, logged her out and back in as a regular user and it worked great. Good luck.

If anyone knows of an easier way to give the non-admin user rights to this update control, let me know! I'd rather not make them an admin, even if it's just temporary.

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
I found a solution that may help with the Flash Player installation. I have Windows XP Home and Internet Explorer 7. I did EVERYTHING tech support and other users suggested, but had no luck on Internet Explorer. I followed the suggestion to download Firefox, and then I was able to download and use Flash Player, but it would only work with Firefox. It would not work with Explorer.
Coincidentally, in trying to open another unrelated application, I was told that Windows could not open it and I chose the option to use the Internet to search for a way to open it. It prompted to download additional software, and one of the options was a free version of a registry compression tool called "Stuffit". After downloading and installing Stuffit, I once again followed Adobe tech support's original instructions for Flash Player.
1. Make sure you are in Administrator Mode.
2. Make sure your Active X settings are correct.
3. Make sure your popup blocker is turned off.
4. Use the Flash Player uninstaller, making sure all applications are closed, and all users are logged off.
5. Then download Flash Player 9 using a standalone installer from the following:
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14266 (Archived Adobe Flash Players available for testing purposes).
6. After downloading the installer, make sure all other applications and windows are closed, then open the “9r115”
folder and run the “flashplayer9r115_winax.exe” file.
7. Afterwards, verify if the Flash Player installed successfully by going to the version test page:
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_15507

This finally worked for me after NOTHING else did. I hope it helps you.

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
What I do on a normal XP install is to first uninstall any old version. Even if you go to a site that requires Flash Player and the site says you do not have Flash Player, run the uninstall anyway. There is usually a version on your pc, sometimes it is just not new enough to function. Uninstall first by going here:

http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2

Then try to reinstall the newest flash player for your operating system.

If you still have problems, go to IE, Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons and make sure anything about Adobe is enabled and updated and try again.

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
I can view the videos. One more thing...before you go to the video site, from the IE screen, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced and UNcheck Show friendly HTTP error messages. That way, if an Active X component or something similar is trying to load when you go to the site, it will pop the little message up and ask you to right click on the yellow bar at the top of the screen to install. Sometimes, if that option is checked, it will supress a lot of messages you need to see.

Re: Flash Player and Windows Vista Fix
I hate to be the 'odd person out' but none of the "fixes" I have tried work. I have tried the troubleshooting on the website where you click if you are having problems downloading Flash - none of these worked. Let's see if I can name them all: I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have closed everything out and un/reintalled, I have gone to the download itself and downloaded from there and from "run as administrator; I have tried the fix mentioned above about changing permissions. I have never had problems with Flash on this very same computer until recently. I cannot see videos in youtube and myspace - I'm not sure where else yet! I have Vista but as I said, this was not a problem before. I am not sure if maybe an update to my anti-virus may have blocked it or prevented it from downloading. If I use Firefox, I can see the videos but I cannot use it in IE -- I cannot even use my banking online because it uses Flash 9 for the 'front' page. (I prefer IE) I have pretty much tried everything but I guess I am missing one thing --- it would be my luck that the very last thing would be the fix that worked...but I sure wish I could figure out what that fix is! I would greatly appreciate any help!
