Update problem. Still shows V5.0.30.0

Hi
Am trying to update Flash Player on my wife's XP (fully updated) laptop. Using Firefox I downloaded the installer and used it on 3 other machines no problem. (IE Active X version downloaded and installed no problem). Seemed to install OK. Checked using www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ which checks the installed version of both Shockwave and Flash. The Flash animation shows version 5.0.30.0 is installed not 9.0.115.0.
Downloaded the Flash uninstaller and executed it, rebooted and reinstalled Flash. Result still the same. Add Remove Programs shows Flash Player twice the second one will not remove as it can not find the uninstaller??
Anyone any ideas why this is. I am suspecting that the later version has installed but it is picking up the animation from somewhere local. I have searched but can't find anything really relevant.
