Color Printer Purchase Help Please

Jun 11, 2008 9:01 AM

I'm looking to soon purchase a color printer (likely laser). The catch is we're a small company with a limited budget.

My goal is to get the truest preview of four-color magazine covers/pages I can in our price range -- $1,100.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping that each page will cost well less than $1 per page in toner.

What I'm concerned with is a low-quality printer that may actually lead us astray with color choices.

As the lone artist with next to no color printer experience -- your input is greatly appreciated! Please share.

Thanks,
D

Have a look at Xerox, the Phaser line.

That's what we've been using for many years now and they're good, high quality Laser printer.

Here is a link to one of their model:

    Doug,

I would also endorse the Xerox Phaser, specifically the 6180 or the 6360 for your needs. HOWEVER, although these printers very good, the color output will not likely meet critical color matching needs. A good calibrated monitor displaying PDF in Acrobat Pro with the proper color profiles selected and overprint preview on will likely give a much truer color representation than any under $1000 color laser printer, regardless of any printer manufacturer claims! It all comes down to what is "good enough" for your color matching needs!
