Unknown Plugins prevent opening files

I am using CS3 5.0.4 and I get a missing Plugin message asking for Conditional Text.InDesignPlugin and WorldReady.InDesignPlugin when opening clients files. Are these old or missing plugins? InDesign has all the adobe updates to the 5.0.4 version.
Can I download these plugins and install them into InDesign? How can I get these files to open?

"Conditional Text" sounds more like CS4.

Aks the one you got the file from to save as INX, and hope that he didn't use any of the spanky new CS4 features (such as conditional text). After verifying he *did* use CS4.

I am having the same problem as Zulbat above. Same plug ins missing. So, what you are saying is that there is no way around this other then upgrading to CS4? The plug in Conditional Text and WorldReady are not available alone?

No, they're not available for CS3 separately. Conditional Text was invented for CS4, and WorldReady Composer capability existed only in the ME versions for CS3 (and possibly under a different name).

Regardless of the plug-in issue, I am under the impression you need your clients to export in INX format if you want to open CS4 files in CS3.

Cheers,

Yes. It (or the rough equivalent) was called ME enabler.

[Wow, Adobe Software use to give you a message that the file you were opening is a newer version. Is this no longer the case?!? Seems like another "Adobe gotcha" to me.]

zulbat,
In InDesign, this message is 'missing plugins' and happens whenever an older version tries to open a newer document. As was mentioned, just get your associate to export as an interchange file and this will open in cs3 just fine..

Re: Unknown Plugins prevent opening files

ok I was getting the plugin problems trying to open the cs4 indd files, but when I try and open the inx files, I can see the file open, then it gives me the option to fix fonts, then it disappears and I cant view or edit it. My cs3 has all its updates but it will NOT open cs4 files even in INX format

What are the EXACT error messages you're getting. Screenshots would be fine.

Re: Unknown Plugins prevent opening files

Thats the problem, I dont really get an error message that should prevent me from opening it.

The first one is "Missing fonts, The document "3" uses one or more fonts which are not currently available on your system. The text will use a substitute font until the original font becomes available."

The other is "This document contains links ot missing or modified files. Click Fix Links automatically to have InDesign update this document with the modified files and help you locate missing files. Click Don't Fix to correct the problem yourself using the Links panel" 3 missing links 0- Modified links

Actually I just opened the file on another computer and its works fine. Tried the same on a mac here at work and it wouldnt open. The only difference is that we have DARWIN installed on the 2 computers that wont open it and the one that did open it doesnt. So it appears to be a DARWIN issue.

Time to raise a little hell with them I guess.

Thanks for your attempt to help.
