IndesignCS2 ME environment

Nov 4, 2008 8:27 PM

I'm a MAC OS X (version 10.5.4) user and currently working on InDesignCS2 ME. My problem is, the application keep on quit at certain stage such as exporting PDF, copying text etc. Most of the time it quit during exporting PDF.

Kindly advise why is this happen, does it because of the environment or any other reason.

Thank You

You may know that Middle Eastern elements in Adobe applications are added by Winsoft. There are a number of issues, and problems that occurs in an ME application, hence Adobe wouldn't know about it.

Having said that, I wish to know if these issues have been happening since you installed the program or just lately?
Have you tried repairing permissions? It solves these issues some time.
Did you update your InDesign to the latest version (Not available on www.winsoft.fr any more, contact them for latest update).
I suppose you have enough RAM on your machine, even though I don't think this has a direct impact on exporting to PDF process.

Make sure you are using reliable Arabic fonts as there are so many non worthy fonts that crash Illustrator and InDesign most of the time.

I can't think of any thing else currently, but from my memory I'd say un-install Adobe Version Cue CS2 if you have it installed as it doesn't work on Intel Macs. If you have VC running it will crash InDesign ME on a number of occasions.

Well, no more ideas here, but you know you can output to PDF in another way other than exporting. You can always print to .ps then distill.

Do you have placed eps files? There was sometimes a problem with those
in CS2 (especially ones created by Freehand).

Confirm the problem is not related to the Arabic fonts being used. Creative a NEW InDesign CS2-ME document using Winsoft Fonts, then export PDF, if everything now exports, it's more likely the Arabic fonts used in other document.

Have you every updated InDesign CS2-ME with any ME Updaters?

As a test, if problem continues, then perhaps download a new version of InDesign CS3-ME "DEMO". You can leave your older InDesign CS2-ME on hard disk (but make sure you don't have English InDesign CS3 on computer).

Then open document, and see if everything exports OK. For demo, see:

You can try converting the eps files to ai files. That might help. I
doubt your problem is an ME specific one, although Mark's point about
updating is a good one. Make sure you are patched to 4.0.5.

It is unfortunate that ME version of Adobe applications do not receive same updates like the international one. For instance InDesign CS3 ME's latest update was 5.0.2, while InDesign CS3 international is 5.0.4

Based on what they've done historically, I would assume that the 5.0.4
update will be released when CS4 ME is released.

But why did they skip 5.0.3 :(

Probably for the same reason they skipped 4.0.1, 4.0.3, and I don't
    remember all the others...
