David Beckham received a rude welcome from disgruntled Galaxy fans in his return to Los Angeles, confronting one who leapt out of the stands at halftime of Galaxy's friendly against AC Milan.
The English star, who missed the first half of the Major League Soccer season while on loan to AC Milan, was booed roundly during introductions, and again on his first several touches of the ball.
Some of those who were angered by Beckham's stated desire to remain in Italy, and his belated return to his US club, made their feelings felt with banners and gestures such as holding up Beckham's jersey and beating it.
As Beckham left the field at halftime, he approached a section of stands and appeared to shout something.
A fan jumped down from the section and was subdued by security and escorted off the pitch.
Beckham played for the Galaxy in a 3-1 MLS victory at the New York Red Bulls on Thursday, but the friendly against AC Milan was his first match in front of Galaxy home fans since his return
I agree with the fans, except the overpaid plonker has put LAG on the footy map.
And here's his prima donna successor doing the same kind of thing:

Fox (Murdoch) Sports is up to no good, being the tabloid it's becoming. They have a feature on their website about Beckham and Armstrong and other athletes they "wish would just go away". I hope to see Beckham make the bench for England in South Africa, and I'm impressed that 37 year-old Armstrong made the podium in Paris against all those young whippersnappers. Good on both of them for giving it one last shot!
I watched a lot of Le Tour and Lance was fantastic. He and Contador didn't hit it off, but that just added to each's determination.
I'm not sure about Becks. He's not achieved anything recently, and is not helping anyone but his bank manager by flitting between continents and playing when he feels like it. Unlike Lance, he's not playing regularly at the highest and toughest levels.

I guess I do agree with you about Beckham. He screwed up by coming to MLS two years before he should have, given hos desire to try for one final World Cup. He would still have been a huge media/fan sensation in the States if he had waited until after next summer.
I also enjoyed seeing Lance battle onto the podium, as well as seeing Cavendish and Wiggins and the Schleck brothers and Contador all fight so hard. It'll be interesting to see if Lance trains really hard this next year and whether he can put genuine pressure on Contador. I doubt it, since Contador was never really under pressure and likely could have disappeared from everyone on Mont Ventoux if he had wanted to.
And yes, Brett Favre does need to go away, Jk3!
Yes.
Qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup returns to focus for the U.S. Men’s National Team ahead of the sixth of 10 qualifying matches for South Africa on Wednesday, Aug. 12, against Mexico. The match, which will be broadcast live on mun2, Telemundo, and the Futbol de Primera Radio Networks, kicks off at 3 p.m. CT from the famed Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
The context:
The "younger team" for the U.S. that lost 5-0 in a friendly vs. Mexico several weeks ago will NOT be on the roster for this match, obviously, but clearly it adds motivation, if any more was needed. Our team will consist largely of the players that beat Spain in the Confederations Cup semi-final in June. Bear in mind that Mexico has lost one WC Qualifier at Azteca Stadium in their long history. Azteca is above 7,000 feet with over 100,000 people and tons of heat and pollution. The game is scheduled for the heat of the day no less. Thanks Mexico. Here are the "quick hits" from the U.S. Soccer website.
Looks like I'll have to watch on Telemundo:

Look at Liverpool – not many local heroes there any more!
Even Manchester United is better. ![]()
Liverpool's two hometown boys are probably worth more than most other club's local players combined, but it is an international league now. Major League Baseball is now full of players from Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Japan, Korea, Cuba, Panama . . . which wasn't the case 20 years ago. There is a price to be paid for having the best Premier league in the world.

Leiva Lucas heads into his own net. Liverpool 0-1 Aston Villa.
WTF?????
(No ESPN or Sky here, just the good old Beeb.)
It's all Liverpool and ex-Liverpool and US goalie Freidl is the man of the match so far.
Can you get BBC 5 Live or is UK only? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8219070.stm

Liverpool never really got into top gear, but the result was never really in doubt either, though there were a few frustrating periods.
The gaps in the crowd you may see on TV were bacause of a major railway power failure and hundreds of fans were stranded about 50 miles away.
Typical railway travel news dept. "240 Hungarian fans stranded in Crewe," writes Kev Core. "Virgin confirms a complete power outage on the 15.07pm from London to Liverpool was delayed three hours."
The Debreceni fans from Hungary were ace.
They did seem like good fans, but the match was boring mostly, I thought, despite many chances for LFC. Debreceni just bunkered down and wouldn't come out unless they won the ball. At about the 65th minute I wondered why Liverpool even bothered going forward. LFC could have forced them to come out to play by playing even more knock-about with the back four and Reina. As it was, there was very little space to try to move the ball past the center line and into the attacking third. Bottom line, 3 points is 3 points!!
