Unless I misunderstand the poster's question (I'm Human, so sue me ;)) the links I provide have either a direct answer or provide leads to where the answer lies.
The OP in this thread never mentioned anything about double-clicking clips in the Project Panel, he specifically mentioned "drag". For the most part if someone cannot accomplish something that basic they are in dire need of watching people do it, as is demonstrated in the video tutorials.
If my assistance in these forums was of no use then the moderators would long since have told me so. Quite the opposite of what has in fact transpired.

The problem almost always is a lack of detail. The OP doesn't explain what he meant by "like i did in pro 7". We have no way of knowing whether he has locked tracks or what the state of his panel layout is.
These problems are very often caused by a lack of understanding of the product and a sure fire way of learning a product is to watch others use it, hence the links to video tutorials.
I enjoy helping people when I can. I am sorry that you have a problem with that. Unfortunately I cannot help you. I am sorry for that failure. I can only encourage you to do the best you can.
I wish you happy editing.

i ran into this with CS5. nearly pulled my hair out coz i couldn't drag it to the timeline. here's what i did...
if you already have the sequence in your project bin create a new sequence (file > new sequence). you should be able to drag it in that new sequence now, at least that's what i did.
Thanks to anthony_wyne for your advice. Your steps I took worked just fine. The reason for my losing the timeline happened when I clicked into icon view in the Project window which appears in the top left corner. While in icon view I went ahead and cleared out the sequence timeline icon which I thought was nothing. Not realising that the timeline icon represented the current projects timeline!. So the steps of File > New > Sequence worked a treat. A new timeline was created and then I could drop and drag the video assets. Creating the new timeline replaced the old one the I had accidentally cleared out in icon view. Because the original timeline was deleted all the previous edits were lost. No biggie thankfully as it was a new project ![]()
Everyone else, cheers for uploading your thoughts. Very much appreciated. Just please be aware that people like me are more focused on trying to solve the issue rather than the little bickering comments that crop up. Focus on the solution and thanks again for all the comments here. Well done!
