Adobe v2.0 for PPC CAB file.

Aug 7, 2008 11:43 AM

Is there a cab file install for adobe 2.0 for my wM5 devices. I would much prefer this method as I can script it on a clean boot to reinstall since most of my devices are remote and users sometimes clean boot them.

quick answer, yes and no ;-)

There is no "official" cab file probably because the ppc reader install also installs an activesync plugin on the user's sync computer and installing from cab only would bypass this tool which attempts to "tag" synced pdf's so they are readable on a ppc.

That said, you can extract the cab by running the ppc reader install on a pc with activesync when no device is connected... the cab will be in an adobe folder which, when found, can then be copied to the ppc or memory card and run on the ppc.

I found this at Microsoft Forums It is similar to what Beverly has said above but it is step by step. This is the only way that I have found that works to get the cab file for my cell phone.

The issue is getting a .CAB file since Adobe only provides an .EXE file that must be installed from the computer to the Pocket PC via ActiveSync. But if you have access to an XP machine that has ActiveSync installed on it, all you need to do is

1)Download the .EXE file to the computer

2)Select the file, and the installation wizard will attempt to install the software. Do not connect your Pocket PC to the computer, so the installation will not be completed.

3)Then go to the \Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Adobe folder and copy the arceARMen_usr.PPC_2577.CAB file to a storage card.

4)Insert the storage card into your pocket pc, tap the .CAB file and Adobe Reader is installed to your device.

    Hope that helps,
