Uninstall any other readers that are also installed.

Make Reader 8 open at boot. Remember Adobe doesn't support two versions
of Reader on the same system. Causes issues.

    Hi,
You can right click a pdf file and open with option, and select acrobat reader 8 as default.

I also think you should uninstall the one you don't use and keep only one version install.

    Good luck!

What if you have Acrobat 7 and reader 8 and want reader 8 to be the default? I tried the above method of right clicking, open with, always open with reader 8. However, trying to open reader 8 instead lanuches acrobat 7.
This is an issue because it is on a server, and most users don't have rights to use acrobat (not enough licenses purchased); so acrobat just shuts them down. Reader would/should work them instead.

Open reader at boot and don't open Acrobat. That is the only way to be
    sure (other than removing Acrobat).

I have nearly the opposite problem.  I want to have Adobe Acrobat 9 be the default reader, not Adobe Reader X.

Since Reader X was installed it has taken over at my default to open .pdf files.  This is not good.

I need to know how to change this.

    Thanks
