Difference between Adobe Reader and Acrobat Reader

Mar 17, 2009 10:24 AM

This morning I tried to open a PDF file (through Firefox) and a message came up asking to update the Reader because the pdf file might not display properly. I went to the Adobe/Acrobat website and downloaded & installed Adobe Reader 9.

Now I have both "Acrobat Reader 5.0" and "Adobe Reader 9" icons on my desktop. I also checked under "Start/All Programs" and under Control Panel's "Add/Remove Programs" and I have both programs. I'm afraid to delete what I think is the older version of the program (Acrobat Reader 5.0) because I don't know if the two programs differ in scope or whatever.

Is Adobe Reader 9 the new version of Acrobat Reader 5.0? If so, how come the new version didn't delete the older version?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Luis

Yes, they are both the same product although version 5 is super old. I don't know why it wasn't uninstalled by Reader 9.

You might get away with just uninstalling version 5 but I'd be inclined to uninstall both and then re-install 9 just to be safe.
