Writing to DLT...ejecting tape will take 30 hours

Aug 29, 2007 7:16 AM

Encore 2.0

I am writing a dual-layer project to DLT for replication. The writing of the first tape proceeds normally until it gets to the end of the first layer. Encore then says "Ejecting tape" but says the process is going to take approximately 30 hours. The tape then proceeds to make noises like it is being read over and over. This ran all night last night and never got to the point of ejecting the tape (over 12 hours). I have never seen this before on any other projects.

Has anyone run into this problem?

Never heard of anything like this at all.
Could (possibly) be a bad tape (unlikely) or an interrupt during writing (more likely).
It would be worthwhile shutting down, and restarting from a cold boot.
That should clear the DLT system, then remove the tape & try a different one. I had a tape jam on me last week, but that was stupidity on my part (in complete madness I actually tried to cancel the write & the whole thing went utterly kerflooey on me)

It sounds as if the tape is not rewinding.....
