I create a hyper link in excel to a local pdf file in Office 2003 SP3 and it opens with reader even though when I open from the desktop, standard will open it as associated. Why is this?
Having multiple Acrobat products on a single system has always been a problem becuase the order of installaiton deteremines which is the default PDF viewer and the user preferences within the application need to be set not to tested and not to reset the preference.
You can have the application you want to have link open in open prior to clicking the link.
You can change the file association used by Windows Explorer and then do not change that selection.
