Thumbnails disappear in Grid

I have used LR since v1.0 with every single update in between and never had any major issues with LR including out-of-memory erros, upside-down red text on pics, adj. brush performance, now ahve run into this problem.
Thumbnails disappear just before the final high-quality pass. Scrolling out and into view make them redraw, just to disappear again together with the three dots. The neweste thread on the topic I was able to find was dated Sep, 2007: Grid thumbnails disappear after 1/2 second . It didn't solve my problem.
Some observations:
Since the only thing that helps is a fresh catalog, my conclusion is catalog corruption. Unfortunately this is not an option for me: too many collections, VCs, flags and stacks lost. I need to cure the catalog. Binary, the catalog seems to be fine — it's been optimized and it passes the integrity test. Also I have opened it with 3rd party utilities (SQLiteSpy).
I attached a small catalog (change extension from .txt to .zip, sorry) with 1 image that exhibits the problem. It was exported form my main catalog.
Forgot... LR 2.3 Windows XP SP2
The catalog was started with v1.0 back in Feb 2007 and has passed through every single version of LR.
Did you change your screen profile in the mean time?
Try to revert back to a standard one just to check.
Dorin,
I downloaded your catalogue, and yep, it does the same thing on my machine. XP SP3, LR 2.3. Cycling through the Grid modes with 'J' causes the thumbnail to appear briefly and then disappear. I'd agree with you and say it's a catalogue configuration that is badly handled by LR. Beyond that, I can't offer a suggestion other than talking to Adobe support. If I were a Lightroom developer, I'd be overjoyed to get that zip file. ![]()

I even tried removing the profile altogether, didn't help. Also, RAW files work fine.

Good idea. Sent to Julie Kmoch. I think it's her who collects broken catalogs.

Actually, though she will likely pass them on it is Daniel Tull at Adobe that has been investigating and repairing Catalogs. He can be contacted at dantull at gmail.com to see if he will still take one and how to send it.

That's what I did and, voila, my catalog is healty again! :-)
For the record, Daniel found that this behaviour was caused by a null value in the sidecarExtensions field of the AgLibraryFile table in the catalog. It has to be an empty string ("") rather than null, otherwise Lightroom goes nuts. Why was is null? Because I did it myself, stupid me. Too much fooling around with my own catalog.
