Unable to create PDF/A from InDesign

May 12, 2009 8:35 AM

Hello,

I'm trying to create PDF/A document from InDesign CS4 with Adobe Acrobat 9.

I create my PDF from InDesign (I create a tagged PDF).

For each document create from InDesign, I receive this message from the Preeflight "Convert to PDF/A (sRGB)" of Acrobat.

PDF document is not compliant with PDF/A-1a (2005)

- Structured PDF : Type entry in a structure element not "StructElem"

- Structured PDF : Type entry missing

Thank for your help.

Cyril.

You say 'I'm trying to create PDF/A document from InDesign CS4 with Adobe Acrobat 9.'  This might be your problem, you need to export from Indesign, File>Export then choose PDF from the file type and it brings up a PDF dialogue box in which you can change a lot of settings.

    Hello Steve,

Thank for your reply, but it's not possible to create PDF/A-1a directly from InDesign.

You need to create your PDF from InDesign and after to transforme your PDF to PDF/A-1a from Acrobat.

    Cyril

    You've answered your own question.

I have not created PDF/A files. Are you saying Acrobat's preflight conversion is not working?

OK I see that's exactly what you are saying. I'd suggest you move this to the Acrobat forum.

I've come across something else. You may be able to PRINT to PDF\A rather than export. In the print dialog click the setup button, then go to the PDF Printer preferences and choose the standard from the default settings dropdown.

    Cyril,

I've exhaausted everything I can think of. You REALLY need to move to the Acrobat forum to get more help from the Acrobat gurus.
