Serial number not accepted

Jul 23, 2009 6:25 AM

There are several possible causes for the serial number being rejected:

  • You inserted the serial number incorrectly. Read this Adobe technote for advice.
  • You used the American trial version, but your serial number is for a different geographical region. Follow the instructions in this Adobe technote.
  • You have upgraded from a previous version, and are prompted for the old serial number if the previous version is not detected on your computer. As long as you registered your previous version, you can find the old serial number by accessing your Adobe account. If the number you enter is rejected, it probably means that you bought the wrong upgrade version. You cannot upgrade from an older Creative Suite (or Macromedia Studio) to the latest standalone version of Dreamweaver. As a general principle, only the following upgrade paths are available:
    • Previous standalone version of Dreamweaver to the latest standalone version
    • Previous standalone version of Dreamweaver to one of the Creative Suites that include Dreamweaver
    • Older Creative Suite (or Macromedia Studio) to the latest Suite.

If you have bought a standalone upgrade version of Dreamweaver and don't have a qualifying product, you need to contact Adobe Customer Support and make arrangements to buy a full licence or upgrade to a Suite.
