Hi,
I’m looking for someone to help me fix a few things on my website and do occasional work on it.
I believe I'm a classic case of knowing enough to get myself into trouble. I can work in golive, but have almost zero idea of how to edit in HTML.
I built my own website but now think I have a LOT of errors on my pages which is causing (I think) a lot of GoLive (8.0.1) crashes and perhaps some SEO issues.
On a random check of pages I found anywhere from 3 to 33 errors. Mostly saying either "the closing end tag is missing" or "The element does not have an end tag" (when checking well-formedness).
I’m looking for someone that:
-works on a Mac
-Uses Menu Macnine 2.2.1
-can work the pages in GoLive (8.0.1) which I will use until MenuMachine is ported to Dreamweaver and I have time to switch.
-a bonus would be someone who can work with php pages to work with my shopping cart and someone who is familiar with basic SEO.
I’d like to find my go to person that can do fixes and implementations. I do most of the stuff as I’m always putting pages up and adding images. But I lack the skill to fix HTML errors, work in PHP and do other things I’d like to do.
Please respond directly to my email address below letting me know what you charge.

Wow! Amazing photographs ![]()
There are a few things you could do yourself quite easily, rather than keep making mistakes and paying someone to fix them ![]()
First, your initial page has no DOCTYPE declared - this can cause all kinds of problems, and is easy to fix. In Golive, with your site window open, go Special > Convert > DOCTYPE. See below:
Then go into the source view of any page and click the lightning-type symbol top left, check for well-formedness only. Mistakes will be highlighted in orange and are often not too hard to sort out there.
I wonder why you need to change to Dreamweaver? It is no more forgiving to those who do not understand code. As I understand it, MenuMachine is not going to be ported to DW, but may come out as a stand-alone application to be used with either DW or Golive. However, I think it will be Mac only.
Dreamweaver has Spry menus, which you might like instead - why not download a trial if you think it will help?
I'm learning DW but have no intention at the moment of giving up using Golive - it still works ![]()
Oh, and before you pay anyone for SEO, why not set up a Google webmaster account (it's free) - lots of help there. If you go to Google, then 'about Google' you'll find a lot of excellent advice for search engine optimisation, in fact Google has produced a pdf on the subject which may be all you need.
Kath,
Thanks VERY much for the informative emails.
I'm glad you like my work!
The main reason I was considering switching form golive to dreamweaver
(besides adobe killing golive) was the stunning amount of crashes I
get using golive (one every 30-45 minutes of use).
It's just become unworkable and I don't know why it's happening. I've
trashed preferences and made new site files to no avail.
Thanks again for your help!!!

Lorne, many times it's not GoLive that is at fault when crashing, but
something in your OS that is triggering the crash. It's best to have a fine
tuned computer when using GoLive. In the past the recommendation was to make
sure your computer had updated drivers, etc.
I've used it with Win98, Windows 2000 and now XP. GL was completely stable
under Win 98, horrid under W2K until I fine tuned my computer and added more
memory, and with the new computer and XP I have rare crashes, and those I
can attribute to myself forcing it to do unreasonable things.
Yeah, GoLive is picky, but it does seem to work flawlessly if the computer
is stable.

Carol,
Thanks very much for hte info.
I'm on a Mac, so I don't work with any drivers, per say, the same way
as a PC does. I have 32GB of RAM (maxed out) and really don't see how
elese to oprimize the computer.
Thanks again.

Well then, if you're on a Mac and the program crashes I'd say you do have a
problem. You might try reinstalling the program. Maybe that will work out
some bugs. Macs have a reputation for being trouble free, but they are not
infallable. Having used one at work, I know they do have their moments. I've
been relatively lucky with GoLive on a PC. Knock on wood!
