the serial number for Photoshop 7 has 24 digits.

I don't believe Photoshop 7 works with Vista.

    >does it not work on vista at all??   i can tbelieve that

Why not? Vista is a MAJOR change from what was used when P7 was written

Both Microsoft AND Apple (ala Snow Leopard OS) are known to break things with each new version of their operating system software

Even within Microsoft, the Office 97 I use with WinXP does not work with Vista or Windows 7

When I build a 64bit computer next year and start using Win7 64bit, I will have to buy a new MS Office and all new Adobe CS5 software

Not sure where you got that number from. That is a serial number that is generated by the software for your operating system and hardware. The serial number you want to install came with the CD and is longer. Anyways, PS 7 won't work on Windows 7 so it is a mute point.

If you have windows 7 professional and above you can download the virtual windows xp to see if PS 7 will run on that. The biggest issue is if your CPU can run virtual XP software. If not then revert back to the OS that can run it.

I got PS 6 and CS (8) working just fine on Vista and my serial number is just 17 digits, 18 if you count the - symbol. So I don;t see why it wouldnt work unless you are entering the serial number incorrectly.

    PS 6 had 17 digits

PS7 started the new numbering system so it has 24 digits.

All versions after PS7 also have 24 digits.
