Can't get smart collections to work

Dec 5, 2009 10:18 AM

I click on start new smart collection in Bridge CS4, enter the source (my F:\ drive), enter the criteria (rating greater than 3 stars) click on save and the save button undulates a little, but the window just sits there with no indication of what the problem is and my new smart collection doesn't get created. This happens regardless of whether I have 'include non-indexed files' checked or not or if I change the criteria. What am I doing wrong? I'm using Windows 7.

Look in Windows 7 event log. Any hang-ups will be logged in and will give you a hint at what the cause is.

Bump. Was this fixed at all? I am having the exact same problem with Bridge CS4 on OS X 10.6, so clearly not an OS-specific problem. What's the point of having a Smart Collections feature if I can't use it?

    Solution? Anyone?

If you are using an external drive the most likely problem is permission problems within the Operation System.

Close Bridge and then right click on Bridge start icon.  Select "run as administrator".  If it works this way there is a permission problem even if you are a single user and have full administrative rights.

It may be a hassle, but at least you know the work around.

Same problem, hangs there and smart collection not created.  Dumb collections work fine.
