Live Trace question--centerline

Dec 20, 2009 6:53 PM

In Adobe Streamline it was possible to trace objects with a "center-line" option.  I do not see this in Live Trace.  Can anyone direct me on how to do this?  I would like to trace text but when I trace it it is in the form of a hollow outline.  I would like the Trace option to average the points/outlines and give me a single-path-per-letter-curve solution as opposed to outlines.

Nope, doesn't exist. Trace conventionally, then use Offset Paths to create insets and clean up. For some letters also creating one step blends from inner to outer contour works, creating a path inbetween.

Yes it does. But you have to futz around with the settings. In the Tracing dialog, turn off Fills, turn on Strokes, set the Maximum Stroke Width high.

Ah, I see. Shows how little I know about some of these things. Sorry if this caused any confusion.
