Acrobat Reader 9.3 and 8.0 and IE 8 and web links

This is a bit odd but the last few days I have been having problems with Reader 8.0 and IE8 in that if I clicked a web link to a pdf then the new page just hung and gave the error "There is a problem with Adobe Acrtobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again." I upgraded to Acrobat 9.3 and have the same problem.
I looked further into the issue and found that this only occurs if the pdf file is opened in a new page. If the link target is not _blank then the file opens fine with no problems.
Has anyone else had this problem or know of a fix?

That is great but I am a web designer and need this to work in all browsers.
Surely Adobe know of this problem??
It would seem that if it works fine in every browser but IE, that it isn't really an Adobe problem, but rather a Microsoft problem. Good luck getting them to admit that their browser is poo though. Microsoft software is absolutely perfect in every way. Just ask them.
Precisely the reason I don't design for IE.
I hear what you are saying and everyone hates IE but we have to design for all browsers.
I guess the best work round is to forget the target as _blank and wait until Microsoft stop that working in IE as well!
Just thought someone else might have found a work round or that Adobe would want to find a fix also otherwise people will stop using Acrobat Reader as well.
I have been looking at this in more detail and both my machines are running the same version number of IE 8.0.6001.18702. One machine is running reader 7.0 and the other is running 9.3. The machine running the 7.0 has no issues and the one running 9.3 will not load pages from IE in a new window but will in the same IE window.
How can this be an IE issue when both machines are running the exact same version and the only difference is the Reader version?
I am having the same issue and can't switch all my users to a different web browser due to other software designed to run in IE. Installing another browser is not an option so it would be great if adobe could fix this issue.
I did find out that it is to do with Acrobat and you need to go into acrobat reader and click edit then preferences and click on the internet choice on the right and then uncheck the 'display pdf in browser'. This should sort out the problem. I just wish that when adobe released the update for acrobat that they change the default to the setting above and then we would not hit all these problems.
