What is your operating system?
Are you trying to install Reader 5 or Reader 9?
Are you trying to upgrade Reader 5 to Reader 9? If so, you must completely uninstall Reader 5 before installing the latest Reader version.

Can you give us the full error message that comes with error code 1500 ?
Are you trying to install Reader 9.0 or Reader 9.3 ?
Do you try the interactive install from the Adobe website, or did you download the offline installer?
Assuming that you want to install the Dutch version Adobe Reader 9.3 for Windows, you can download the offline installer from http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/nld/AdbeRdr930_nl_NL.msi

I am able to update Reader properly on my machine. If you can provide me āAdobeARM.logā and āMSIxxx.logā from %temp% location ,probably I can look into this issue.
a) To enable ARM log, set the following registry key,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM]
"iLogLevel"=dword:00000001
b) To enable MSI log, set the following registry key,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\]
"Logging"="voicewarmupx"
After setting above registry values just open Reader and perform the same update action, which was not working for you.

Hi vmareje,
The Error Code: 0x670 in the ARM log translates to ERROR_PATCH_NO_SEQUENCE
which is very strange to get this kind of error since your are applying 9.3.2 patch on Reader 9.3 and which is a valid sequence. There could be something wrong in the System/MSI. My suggestion would be to uninstall Reader completely. And then Download full Reader 9.3 from
www.adobe.com and install it. After installing, launch Reader and navigate to Help>Check for updates to get the latest 9.3.2 patch. If the Error 1500 still persists, then please download the 9.3.2 patch from
http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3.2/misc/AdbeRdrUpd932_all_incr.msp and apply the patch manually by double clicking on it. Hope it helps.

I have the same problem as you do, did you find a way to solve it? I am tired of this program it is a heck of a mess and I want it out of my machine, how can I delete it? I can't do it with remove programs it does not allow me to do it. I have checked this and it says a Data1 file is missing, I can't remove it, I can't update it and can't replace it. What can I do?

@ Marylou_II - I resolved my problem by manually downloading the update as indicated in my previous post and apply it i.e. look for the update one version higher than the version you are running (you'll find this in "help about adobe reader 9" in the adobe menu). We don't seem to have the same problem so I'm not sure how to advise you other than the above...

I am getting the same error when I try to install the latest security patch to both of my PCs.
PC1 - Laptop running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional ver 8.2.0
PC2 - Dell Desktop running XP Home Premium with Service Pack 3 Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional ver 8.2.0
I get the Adobe Acrobat Updater message box pop up that says:
Update Failed
Cannot install the update. Please run Adobe Acrobat Repair.
Error: 1500
The Repair will not run, as it tells me:
Windows Installer
The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.
I have tried putting the installation CD into the drive and still cannot get the repair to run.
I guess I will have to live with an unpatched Acrobat that has security holes!

(I posted this over in the Adobe Acrobat Pro forum, but looks like it's biting Acrobat Reader people too.)
I got nailed by that update this morning, and am currently restoring my Windows XP-SP3 system from a backup.
Look at your %SystemRoot%\Installer folder. I bet it's completely empty. It's supposed to have a lot of files and folders in it.
At first I just received that obscure "installation failed" message that the Updater throws up (by the way, Updater looks a little different this time around, doesn't it?) After an hour or so of working on the PC a few desktop icons for installed programs went blank, looking like a white box with a blue bar on top of the box. I tried seaching for the icon and was getting messages about %SystemRoot%\Installer\{<some long alphanumeric directory>} not found.
I looked in the %SystemRoot%\Installer folder and it was completely empty.
I booted up a backup hard drive I had been on a couple of weeks ago (I recently migrated to a SSD drive) and looked at %SystemRoot%\Installer and it was full of folders and files. A few minutes later the Updater told me I should apply the update. I did, it failed. I looked into %SystemRoot%\Installer again and it was completely empty.
I'm now restoring from a backup of that hard drive, which I made in case my foray into SSD drives didn't work out.
