_s1 Appended to all Slice Names

May 4, 2010 11:30 AM

Since moving to Fireworks CS5, every single slice I export has "_s1" appended to the file name. It doesn't matter how I name the slice or change the file name in the export dialog.

I assume this is supposed to denote "state 1".

Anyone else experience this? Does anyone know how to turn it off?

I see a checkbox for "Current State Only" but it is greyed out when I CTRL+SHIFT+R and choose "Images Only".

I can't describe to you how annoying and disruptive to my workflow this has been the last couple of days. Previous versions didn't do this.

Thanks!

    It's working fine here,

    You should check the settings.

File > HTML Setup > Document Specific: see the image.

    settings.jpg

Hope the will work for you.

    Hi there,

I'm having the same issue with CS5 and state names. I have used the HTML Setup to control the output of the slice names but I'm still getting s1 for the Up state which is driving me nuts. Didn't happen in CS4 by the way.

The above settings should give me the following results:

    slice.gif

    slice_over.gif

    Instead I get:

    slice_s1.gif

    slice_over.gif

Any ideas as to how to resolve this will be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

In the last drop down list, choose Custom, then set your choice of Up, Over etc text.

When you have Custom set, the Edit button command will become enabled so you don't have to cycle through the drop list again.

Awesome, thanks!  Coming from CS4, which I only ever used for raw image exports, this really threw me for a loop.  I don't understand why they would disable the options button for images...  :/

More and more people use JQuery rollover is a trend. It often use up image name with append "_on" for hover image name.

Fireworks CS5 has this enhancement to add this customizable file name capabilty!

    Thanks,

    Takashi

Yes, but what about the people who don't use it? If you have a multi-page document, how do you stop this new behavior from renaming your files?

Yeah, what I don't understand about this glitch is that it seems to occur randomly.  Halfway through a project it will start doing in on particular pages when just a day before it wasn't.  Makes for a frustration thing when you are trying to troubleshoot a problem and it turns out Fireworks is unknowingly renaming your files.  Even in the naming dialog box it doesn't reveal that it's renaming...the only hint is if you try to explort it out again and it will ask if you want to replace the existing xxxx_s1.png file....only then, do you see it's happening.  Then you have to spend 15 minutes on google trying to find a solution which was supplied here thankfully...Adobe I love fireworks but please address this.
