Problem with Sony ARW files in CS2

May 27, 2010 7:29 AM

I have a Sony A350 and have recently decided to switch over to using the ARW files from the camera in my Photoshop CS2.  Unfortunately when I try to open them I get this message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document".  I have gone to the "Help" menu and ran "Updates..."  The first time I updated I made sure that the box asking if I wanted to update to Camera Raw 3.7 was checked (which from what I understand should have fixed it).  So even after installing the update why are my ARW files still not being recognized??  I'm very confused and would be thankful of any help.

Unfortunately for you the ARW files from your camera need ACR 4.4 or higher .

This will not work with CS2.

You need to upgrade PS to CS5 or use the DNG converter* to create files editable in you earlier version.

No. It just decodes the raw data so that it can be read.

By the way after CS5, CS2 will no longer be eligible for upgrade, so you might consider that fact.
