CS5: Installing Bridge update 4.0.1 does not work

  • PS/Bridge CS5, WinXP/SP3, German edition
  • Adobe Application Manager shows availability of Bridge update 4.0.1
  • Click on the update button in the right corner below (Adobe Application Manager window)
  • Message appears (translated from German into English): "Another instance of Updater is already be executed. Repeat the process at a later date."
  • Reinstall of PS/Bridge CS5 did not help

Thank you

Not sure, but it could mean the server is busy and asks you try latter.

Also, make sure Bridge is not running the the background due to autoload feature (check in Task Manager),

Re: CS5: Installing Bridge update 4.0.1 does not work

Many users shun the auto update.  They like the control of manually doing it.  The updater software is not bullet proof, and they can be down, or busy at peak times, or do the updates incorrectly.

Did you have any luck with this? I can't find a download link for the update and manually requesting for an update gives the same error.

The issue might occur if any instance of Setup.exe is running. Please check if setup.exe is visible in task manager. If yes, kill setup.exe and  try updating again.

Nope, no setup, no spurious pdapp or anything like that.

Just to add my name to the list. And there isn't any

    manual download either.

So does this update actually exit?

Search for AAM Updates Notifier.exe in the task manager and kill it. Try updating again.

Here is the latest from the Mac site.  Adobe is hoping for a fix later in week.

    Hi, All:

basically, you are  mentioning about 2 issues:

    1. adobe.com download link for Bridge  is missing.

    2. CS5 V4.01 udpate fails to install

Bridge team  is working on the fix.

for fails to instlal, we want to see more  information on that. can any1 of you leave a message on how we connect  with you by a Adobe Connect Session?

we need to have a look at  your machine configuration.

    thanks!
    Tony

Thanks Andreas, for the logs.  Logs indicate that the issue is occuring due to some system level locks. A system reboot might help.

    Thanks,

    Hello. Same problem here.

I get "Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.1 Update  Installation failed" from the Adobe Application Manager after tyring to install Bridge CS5 4.0.1.

Also, I did kill the "AAM Updates" process, but got the same result. I guess I'll wait for Adobe to fix it.

Another irritant is that clicking on "customer support" in Adobe Application Manager simply lanches "http://www.adobe.com/support/loganalyzer/" which doesn't seem to be able to detect that I've already installed "Adobe Support Advisor," (several times) and is thus a dead-end.

Re: CS5: Installing Bridge update 4.0.1 does not work

After spending much time trying to figure out why the updater kept saying to close bridge when it seemed obviously not running.

On windows 7, after checking 'task manager', 'processes'; sure enough bridge.exe was running, even though bridge was

not actually running where I could actually see it. ended task and continued updater and it worked fine, so thanks for the hint.

I am guessing the bridge.exe is a standby process for when photoshop is running, otherwise that is very annoying for no good reason.

Unfortunately the defalult mode is to have Bridge open on startup.  IMO this option should be unchecked in the preferences as it causes more problems for the few seconds one saves by opening it manually.

Re: CS5: Installing Bridge update 4.0.1 does not work

I don't think this was the problem for everyone. I, at least, don't have Bridge running and the error is about another updater being run at the same time.

  • trend1 User 2 posts since

Gary, For me I ran Task Manager, click on the Processes tab and Bridge was running I clicked on it and clicked the End Process, I opened Bridge, click on Help and clicked on update, as the updated ran I closed Bridge, the updater stopped at 23% and asked me to close bridge and Bridge wasn't running so I checked the Task Manager and sure enough it was running even though I turned it off, I turned it off again and the install completed. I suggest leave Task Manager open as you try the install.

Hope this helps as it worked for me running Windows 7

AFAIK the fix will be available also for all other users who have the same problem.

Is that fix built into the new Bridge update, or does one have to run through a bunch of procedures to get there?  If the latter what are those steps?

Re: CS5: Installing Bridge update 4.0.1 does not work

While good for you it does not fit well with the general user.  A 1 on 1 is usually difficult to achieve, due to person power restrictions.

Hopefully the info that was gained from working with you will be incorporated in the next updater.

I love the early techonolgy adopters, they work out the bugs in the new releases.  Will order CS5 soon as fixes are on the rise.

I also downloaded the 4.0.2 update and it's not working either. I had task manager open, and Bridge was not running. I can't find 4.0.1 to download as once the newest is up, the older one vanishes.

I get "Currently Installing" gets to the end, and then I get the " The following updates were unable to install. If you wish to install these updates, plase fix teh problems below and retry: Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.2 Update Installation failed"

Re: CS5: Installing Bridge update 4.0.1 does not work

Same problem for both the Bridge and the Camera RAW updates.

    Both result in the message

    "Update not applicable"

I have installed Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge and Dreamwaever so far from the Master Collection.  I still have Photoshop CS4 installed.

It seems some people have solved this by running the CS5 cleaner utility, and then uninstalling and reinstalling.  But this would take a lot of time that I do not have, with no guarantee of success either, it would seem.

If this error message was created, then Adobe must know the conditions in which it is triggered, and therefore presumably how to solve it.

    Update:

removing the 1.0 folder solved the issue for me (Windows XP SP2)

Re: CS5: Installing Bridge update 4.0.1 does not work

Installing  Updates ( recent ones : Bridge , Photoshop CS5 & camera RAW ) have given Photoshop CS5 users a headache . None of these install smoothly as was the case in previous versions CS4, CS3, CS etc.

Under normal circumstances : Double Click & follow the instructions (as advised by Adobe ) does not work. It gives the message  “…. Cannot be installed as another instance is running… please close it & try again “ . Try as you may ( Task manager, third party programs to identify the mysterious ‘another instance running ‘ fails). Some users have also gone to the extent of uninstalling & re installing Photoshop CS5 --- No success. While others have scoured all the local discs of their computer searching for files ( C > Programs > Adobe > Photoshop CS5 Floders or C > Programs > Common Files Folders > Adobe etc)., some have in desperation formatted their computers & Re installed Photoshop CS5, even then the updater gives the same damn message. There is ranting & cursing in all the photoshop forums across the globe. Some have cursed Adobe & demanded their money back & praised the illegal torrent sites.

However in one of the forums I came across a procedure which helped me to install the updates smoothly. I forgot which forum it was as well as the name of the submitter. But, God bless him as he has brought relief to millions of Photoshop Lovers. All credit goes to him.

I tried it on my machine it worked like a charm ( WinXP SP3 – 32 Bit) , No reason why it should not be a success on other windows platforms :

However before installing the updates, turn off all Antivirus, Spyware & any third party Firewall programs on your computer and as always restart your computer even if the updater does not tell you to do so.

    Follow the steps :

    1)      Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel (The Control Panel Opens)

    2)      Double Click on Administrative Tools Icon. ( Administrative Tools Folder Opens)

    3)      Double Click on Services Icon ( The Services Panel Opens).

    4)      On the Right side of the Services Panel is a list of services available for the computer, arranged in alphabetical order.

    5)      Scroll down to the service “Work Station” (Probably the second last of the list).

    6)      Right Click it and “Start” the service.

    7)      Now install your updates. They will install like a charm !

I had already tried all of that. What did work was uninstalling, reinstalling, then applying the updates.   I just hope this isn't typical of what has to be done for all the future updates, as it's somewhat time consuming method.

I can't give a specific answer to your problem because I do not know the configuration of your computer nor the OS you are using. But in general updates are not easy to intall on programs that have been activated with cracks / patches etc. In such cases you have to uninstall / reinstall the program & then apply the  updates while the program is still in the "Trial" mode & then apply the cracks / patches etc. and then the cracks / patches etc. may not work with the updated version ! ( Please... I am not implying that such is the matter in your case - this is just a general observation - and I am sure that some of the members on this forum may be facing a problem because of this issue). Use a valid Key to activate your program. Seconly if you are using a number of third party programs in the genre like registry cleaners, computer boosters, donloaders etc. such programs have a tendency to F**k up the computer and destabilise the installed genuine programs. This may also prevent proper installation of updates. But I do feel that Adobe owes it to the users of its programs to address such issues in time and as clearly and lucidly as possible. Regards.

Be sure that you are updating with the right exe file ie. Mac / windows. Either of the them will not work on the other system.

I agree with you,  manual updates are preferred because the downloaded exe can be backed up on a CD / DVD and immediatetly installed in case a system format becomes necessary because of a serious virus / spyware / malware attack or because of several other possible reasons. Adobe and many other software vendors seem to think that every user in the globe has a superfast internet connection or has the time and leisure to go gaga over the internet update. In case of adobe it was the Flash Player, Shockwave player & the Acrobat Reader which did not have standalone installers & users had to bear with the periodic automatic updating nuisense, while Microsoft did this with .NET, Internet explorer etc. Now both have started offering standalone installers.. Regards

  • AnysiaC User 3 posts since

No, it wasn't activated with a patch or crack.

Maybe I should have mentioned that I had someone from Adobe giving me tech thru email, and we found out that with the problem I was having, the only thing left to try was uninstall/reinstall.  I replied to the thread again because I wanted people to know that sometimes, that is the only viable option to fix it.

    Have a nice day!

    im on window xp pro

update woudn't work either, i found what seems to be the fault looking on other sites

anyway to get it working and it does now on mine! you install Client for microsoft networks if its not already installed

look in services scroll to bottom of list check there's workstation and it's set as automatic.

now cs5 should work without it saying another instance is running.

hope this helps everyone out ..
